PERSONALITYIt's hard to see when you look at twenty-two year old Dazai, but for many years there's always been this dark, empty, lonely void inside of him. At the age of eighteen, while he was still with the mafia, he believed that by placing himself in the midst of all these raw human emotions and desires and by living in violence that he might find something to fill it. It wasn't that he had any preference-- any feelings towards the concepts of "good" or "bad". It didn't matter to him if he was on the side that killed people or if he were on the one that saved people. It was when his friend Oda died that he realized that he wouldn't find what he was looking for. And with his dying words, Oda asked him to become someone who helps people, rather than one that kills them. Four years later, that is the Dazai we see. His carefree attitude covers up the world of hurt he truly feels, and those that know the true darkness inside of him, do so because he's told them. The way he acts completely contradicts it unlike the way he acted four years ago when he was in the mafia. This Dazai smiles, laughs, sings stupid songs, and relentlessly teases his co-workers. But as his friend asked he has become a slightly better man. The fact that he's not alright surfaces in all the reasons he's known as a "Suicide Maniac". On a number of occasions he's carried around a book called The Complete Suicide Manual-- and it appears that he's always thinking about ideal places and things to use to commit suicide. Later on there are even more instances of him putting on his greatest charms and asking girls if they'd like to commit a double suicide with him. "Man fears death and yet, at the same time, man is drawn to death. Death is endlessly consumed by man in cities and in literature. It is a singular event in one's life that none may reverse. That is what I desire." Like the real-life person he was named after, his current goal is to find a woman that will commit double suicide with him. And yet there have been several times he's been found trying something stupid only to be saved in some ridiculous way; from getting caught in a police net, drifting in the river to getting stuck bent in half in an oil drum. He points out that despite the fact that death is what he seeks, he does not in fact like suffering or pain in the slightest. Another unique point he puts on it is that he does not want his death to disturb others; which is why he ultimately apologizes to Atsushi when the boy saved him from his FIRST trip down the river. He has a very deep, philosophical way of thinking that's hidden behind silly antics. He lives, always prepared for the precious things in his life to be taken from him. It's deeply rooted in depression, but not illogically so. He shows that depth to very few individuals but it's that which makes Oda a true friend that understands him-- and that which makes Oda's death one of the few times that Dazai actually became illogically emotional. There's nothing worth pursuing at the cost of prolonging a life of suffering." But despite his change in occupation, that conniving side of him is still there. He's not opposed to using force or slipping in some illegal activities like going through confidential files or bugging someone so he can trace and listen in on a person. But he doesn't intend to kill anyone either. He's a very intelligent individual capable of coming up with strategies with multiple stages and planning them out in advance. He's also good at anticipating his enemies movements. It was said that Dazai's enemies misfortune was the fact that they are Dazai's enemies. But he's also notorious for only telling people what they need to know and leaving even his allies in the dark on his full plans until the right time, to their dismay. For most people it's nearly impossible to tell just what it is that he's really thinking or what his true intentions are. Sometimes his goofy attitude and teasing are exactly what they seem to be. Other times he puts on the same goofy charm and it's really just a facade covering up the fact that he's slipping a listening device into a woman's pocket. He heavily filters the information about himself that he shows to people whether it's personal or just what he's doing at any given time. Yet the camaraderie he shows for those in his group is genuine. He sees true potential in Atsushi and wants to help him so that he might cultivate it. He'll go to lengths and put himself in peril in order to help them both directly and indirectly; whether it's protecting them in a fight or getting himself kidnapped in order to look into information regarding the bounty on someone's head. But it's also not strange for him to go missing for lengths of time or to not show up for things on time. In cases like that, the others don't worry about him. Both because they're used to his behavior and because they believe in his capabilities. But that also means when he calls them for help because he did something stupid, they tend to ignore him because of his tendency to continually seek out and get into these troublesome situations and their built in faith that he can get out of them. No matter what it is he's doing, he tends to expresses and exude the utmost confidence; whether he's spitting out something dumb or educating someone on his plans or ideas. Especially when it comes to his predictions. He has great faith in his planning and in his abilities above all else. He likewise has faith in his allies and the organization as a whole. ABILITIESHe has one particular human skill that outshines the others-- and that is his ability to survive despite his attempts to the contrary. But beyond that, he's also an incredibly intelligent individual that lives up to the detective portion of his work. His powers of deduction aren't limited just to detective work though. He's also a strategist of sorts capable of manipulating the information he wants people to have about him or a situation in order to lay out plans or traps. He's also incredibly strong. He has training both in hand to hand combat as well as firearms thanks to his previous work with the mafia. That also plays a part in the amount of damage he can take every day as well as in a fight. But these skills are still secondary to his mental capabilities. It's also noted that he's a skilled interrogator who's always gotten all his prisoners to speak. That includes various torture methods as well. Dazai has one power and it's called No Longer Human. It's constantly activated and it's purpose is to nullify other people's powers. There is just one condition-- It requires skin contact from him. If you, my benevolent mods are alright with it, I'd like to keep the weakened version of it, enough to limit anyone else's weakened abilities since it could add a fun twist to a case, but I'm also similarly okay with him losing it as well.
